I am going to build an LED array and looking for ideas on how to support 44 pounds of Extruded Aluminum.

Ideally I would like it to pivot out of the way as needed for tank access

"Extruded Aluminum Heatsink, 10.080 inch wide, 2.5 inch fin height, .375 inch base, 44 inch length, 43.68 pounds"

Looking for ideas

Thanks
Ken

wow that's alot. I put mine on a cable system (up/down). I put pulleys in the ceiling joist and used cable stoppers for the height adjustment, i can move my lights roughly 2 feet which game me enough room to get in the tank.. At first i was going to use some kind of counterweight system but finding weights that heavy that aren't dumbbells is neither easy nor cost effective.

I need to do the same thing . I am going to use a spindle from a trailer axle , for the base . For the arm 1-5" aluminum conduit , with a 90 degree bend to make an El to support the lighting fixture . on the bottom end of the conduit I will have a base plate , with the same bolt pattern as the axle hub . About half way up the conduit , I will have a collar , that will be attached to the stand .

What do you think about this?
Trailer jack, flip it, and bend a pivot arm out of steel conduit
Then you can pivot the heatsink out of the way
And you have a way of adjusting the fixture height with the crank handle
