I need to pump water outa my main tank up to a display refugium. Now could i use a maxi jet as the water pump ?

I would be pushing the water up about 3 ft. Would it burn the pump out ? I dont want to mess my main tank up.

I would use a 900 or 1200 model. Need low flow in desplay refuge.

Just need a inexpensive pump that wouldent look like crap in my display. (no sump yet)

Yes it would work. But at 3 feet you would only be pushing 100 gph at max.

I tried it once -- just for giggles -- with a MJ1200 and 1/2 inch plastic tubing, it was about 3 feet and the water was barely coming out.

I use an MJ1200 pump to do my water changes. Its atleast 4' from the bucket to tank rim and I can add 5 gallons in a minute or 2.

An Aquaclear 50 will do the job right.

I've been using a Maxijet 1200 as a return pump on my 10 over 10 for years.

It'll be plenty of flow for a refugium.

I'd say it'll work. They are good cheap pumps that work great for water changes, reactors, and UV's. If it were me I'd use a Mag3, but I think the maxijet will work. I use a Modded maxijet 1200 for my siphon pump on my HOB overflow and for flow along the bottom of the sand bed.
