View Full Version : How's My Water With My RO/DI Unit?

I got my RO/DI unit a few weeks ago and have made 30 gallons or so since then. I bought the 5 stage plus unit from BRS which has a dual TDS meter on the DI canister.

My TDS going in to the DI is reading 2 PPM. Water going out is of course reading 0.

Does this mean I have great water? I'm assuming it would mean longer between filter changes. Is that true?

Any comments?

What is the TDS of the water entering the unit before it goes through the RO membrane?

That I do not know.

So how are we supposed to know then?

You have great water coming out. It's what going in that determines how well your filters, membranes and resin last.

2 going into the DI is quite impressive, the membrane does however do a ton of work in removing tds from the water. Best way to find out how good your water is is to test it without running it through the filter. If you have a tds meter just dip it in your source water and get a reading.

2 in means you have around 100tds before the ro membrane. Which is pretty good.

But length of time for filter changes is subjective. In ideal conditions you wouldnt have to change it as often as me (400+tds tap water). But just keep an eye on it.

You never know if your city fixes a water main close to your house that released a bunch of sediments into you water pipes.
