Hi I'm thinking of purchasing this fixture:

http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/242488/product.web

for my 125g.

8x39w t5 with 6 lunar LEDs. and a controller built in.

Does anyone have an opinion on this fixture? a LFS is offering it to me (with bulbs) for about $470, is this reasonable?

I'm keeping a mixed reef with fish.
Thanks!

I'd say go for it if it suits your needs. What type of coral are you wanting to keep and what are the dimensions of your tank?

I have the same tank and went with a ATI 60" Powermodule. Way better light but a little more money. JMO

Price has been a big Concern so I can't afford an ati fixture. I was going to buy ati bulbs once I recover from buying the fixture.
I currently don't have any sps but have soft and lps. If I keep the sps on the upper part of the tank I should be ok right?

I think 4 bulbs width will be not enough for your tank, why don't you get 60" Tek Light 6x80W, it is about $500, much better light.

so you would suggest 60" over a 72" fixture because of the wideness? the fixture is 500, but that doesn't include bulbs. The fixture I'm looking at has bulbs with it btw
will that make a big difference in the brightness of the light or what corals I can keep?

Since you never answered initially I'm assuming the 125 is a standard 72X18X22. That being said you are going to be left with 6 inches on each side that are not real bright but may have shadows. I personally do not like the look and would rather have the whole tank lit well but really comes down to personal preference.

Personally, I'd purchase a fixture that combines T5s and MHs. I ended up replacing my previous fixture with the following:

What's the rush on buying a fixture if you do not have the money? Maybe you should wait and buy a better quality piece of equipment that will suit your needs? If I wanted to have a well lit 125 I'd go with 3 X 250 MHs w/ T5 supplementation...

I have this light fixture and IMHO think it would be fine for your tank. I like the built in timer, 1 cord, optional mounting options, and the lunar lights look super cool. I will probably be called out on this but I have this on my 240!

I will however upgrade my bulbs when it comes time to replace them.
Probably some ATI Blue +'s, GE 6500K's, and UVL 75/25's.

For a fish only you could have this fixture on a 240;)

Well, believe it or not, I do keep some button and clove polyps. I think it all has to do with the design of my rock structure. No shadows front to back. But like I said, I will be upgrading the bulbs in about 4 months. I must admit the stock bulbs that come with the fixture leave a bit to be desired.

Lunars still rock though.

Thanks killer tang, that actually makes me feel better. Do you think 470 is reasonable ?
