I've been asked to set up a Fluval Chi with saltwater for a Christmas display. It will only be up for a few weeks at most, and I was thinking live rock, live sand, a small frogspawn and an occelaris. It's not ideal lighting for the frogspawn, but would it work for a few weeks? If not, what kind of lighting should I look at putting over the tank? And do I look for a nano skimmer for this, or just do water changes to keep the tank clean?

Thanks for any suggestions.

OMG the chi is just insanely small.. :(

Bigger than most pico tanks... :)

If I don't go with a Chi, it will probably be a Finnex or JBJ pico system, even smaller volume.

What about a fluval edge? Put some MR11 LED lights in place of the halogen, 8-10 lbs of live rock, 10lbs of live sand, and some softies in the brightest part of the light. I had a fluval edge set up like that for 3 months with 1 ocellaris and a cleaner shrimp and everyone was happy.

Coralife makes a 12" 36w PC fixture.
The Chi is 10" wide

I have a Chi, and used the PC fixture for about 2 months, everything did fine
including a maxima clam

the tank is not lit by 12 3w LED's.

That's not a bad idea, but I thought the MR11 bulbs were pretty dim. I think I'd rather go to the JBJ or Finnex before an Edge. But at least the Edge has been converted to salt water by a number of hobbyists.

The edge has an AC10 which is a pretty nice filter and with the MR11s I had some zoos and mushrooms that did very well. The liverock filtration is great, and with a 1 gallon water change once a week no skimming is necessary. I would reccomend doing away with the bio media and carbon that comes with it and use chemipure elite instead with just the sponge in the bottom of the filter.

Here's a pic with the MR11 before I added the corals:
