So I just got my live rock 5 days ago. Two days ago I noticed quite a bit of algae growth (i think its algae) on my sand and on the rock. I've tested the water my ph is good, Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite are all in check. Is this growth normal? Will it go down on its own after the tank cycles more, or do I need to do something to get rid of it? Any help would be great.

Thanks

best I can tell from the pic is its just hte diatom bloom. It will get worse before it gets better and is all part of the initial cycle process. you can start getting your cleanup crew ready and they will take care of it in time.

It's hard to tell from the photo but the green stuff looks like bryopsis to me. It will take over your tank. If you try to clean it off the rock that can just spread it. I hate that stuff so much the way I finally eradicated it was to remove any rock where it sprouted. That's a lovely piece but I'd chunk it if that's bryopsis. (Try to trade in for other rock)

It's really good at consuming nutrients, but in doing so it just grows and grows :D

The diatom bloom is normal - not to worry on that.

The brown is part of the cycle. The green is not. Have you tested for phosphates? Are you using RODI water?
