LFS Had this piece of coral that was dying and was going to throw it away so I rescued it. Any idea what it is (not the Xenia!)

Turbinaria, I believe.

looks like some type of encrusting montipora.

I agree with the Turbinaria. I have a yellow in my tank that looks almost exactly like that. Moderate to high light and good flow. It will come back surprisingly quick when it's happy.

Judging by the overall shape, I would say you have the living edge of a Turbinaria. Also looks like you bought yourself a little hair algae. I would take a toothbrush to that algae in a bucket of saltwater if it were me.
