Waste of money IMO...stay away from those miracle in a bottle scams and just get yourself a piece of live rock. You'll have more purple than you care for in due time.

Patience is key. Keep calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium at ideal levels and corraline will become a weed to you;) Don't waste your money!

A 2-part supplement would be fine. Purple Up basically is fine sand, and it won't do anything useful. You'll need alkalinity and calcium test kits to guide the dosing of the 2-part.

thank you everyone, my levels are good, and my 50 pounds of LR are clean and almost white right now, about a month and a half in, last time it took 4 months to see some purple start. I've just been told a two part is an option, i think saving money is the way to go however.

Hi Jon, Id suggest keeping the parameters at a decent level and the rest will come along, get calcium to 420 ish, mag to 1300 ish and keep alk around 8-10 and you will be on the right track, theres no need to add purple up at all, and as mentioned the 2 part is fine, although only add it of course if your test kits suggest you need a dose to get parameters to the correct levels for you.

Manually dosing the two part and magnesium can be done to keep your parameters in check. I purchased a BM T01 for dosing about two months ago and love that chore being out of the way. It also doses my supplementation over 24 different intervals to keep stability a lot better rather than me adding at day/night.

You shouldn't have to dose anything at all in a brand new tank (especially purple up!).

Have you bought test kits for Ca, Alk and Mg? They'll tell you what needs dosing and when. ;)

Dixie is right too...Water Changes at first should keep up with calcium, alk, mag. Once you start adding coral you'll find consumption goes up relatively quickly. You can also help keep alk/calcium up at first by topping off with lime water. I top off with lime water because of the cheap cost of kalk at BRS and then seem to have to use less two part. I bought a 5 gallon bucket of Calcium Hydroxide (Kalk) for ~$50.
