What wood do you use, and do you just take off the previous nozzle and put it on the new one?

Basswood is a good substitute. It is in the same genus as limewood. It would be worth trying IMO.

IMHO it is a waste of time. You can buy them fairly cheap or use ceramic diffusers that don't get clogged.
