so im planning to upgrade to a 90 gal tank within the next couples months and just pricing out equipment and figure out what i need to replace. So one of the things i have to replace is the skimmer. i want to go with reef octopus cuz ive heard nothin but good thing, but will consider other brands.

what i was looking at were the:Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 Cone Skimmer

leaning towards the xp2000 cuz i remember reading that ur skimmer should be rated about double ur tank volume, but u think the xp1000 would work? what do u guys think?

research led me to the xp2000 for a cone sro 2000 non cone/ hybrid and space saving swc 160 ( just bought one monday and got it tuesday) the thing is a tank and was alot cheaper then the SRO and the pump to replace is only $50 vs SRO BB pump is umm $190. Seeing as thats really the only thing to fail cheaper is alittle better for me and it preforms great from what i can see so far.

the swc is really compact which is what i needed. i was gonna get the xp2000 but the extra $125 and the $190 for a new pump... Im happy

The bb pumps have a 3 year warranty. The 2000 cone is what I'm using on my 150 / 190 w/ sump. The sro xp1000sss would be good if you have space limitations in the sump, if you want a octopus. If the swc has the new syncra pump you should be OK too.

The xp2000 cone skimmer is an A+ choice. Buy this one and you'll never need to upgrade to a larger one when your bioload is high. Unless you truly don't have space, don't bother with the spacesaver models. Don't worry too much about replacement costs on the pump. With how the BB performs, you get what you pay for, and with a 3 year warranty you can't complain. The XP 1000 would work, but not as good with heavy bioload.
