I know to change the carbon bag i have in my refugium/sump once a month.
But does anyone clean/rise the bag weekly?

I don't know anyone who does that- it may not hurt, but a question is what's causing it to gunk-up enough that it would need weekly cleaning? If you're perhaps describing a filter sock, i.e. the bag into which your drain empties, it's best to keep the carbon in a high-flow section elsewhere or better yet invest in a reactor- a whole setup can be had for less than $100.

+1 on the reactor it is much more efficient when the water is forced through it.

I got one reactor fitted for GFO and have no more room.
I have the CPR HOB refugium and what I did was to put a carbon bag in the outlet section. Good water flow, but i believe its also acting as a semi filter sock.
Plus this is my first time i have ran it so there is chance it working overtime now.
