I have a Bullseye Pistol Shrimp in my 12g nano. It has been there for about 18 months. Until about three months ago the only fish in the tank was a mysteri wrasse, which committed suicide after being in there for two years. Since the mysteri jumped I have introduced at least five much smaller fish to the tank. Three clown gobies, a barnacle goby, and a Randall's goby. All of the clowns immediately went into hiding underneath the main rock where the pistol lives and were never seen again. Both the Randall's and barnacle goby lived for about a month and were perfectly healthy, eating like horses. On the days when they went missing they were in the tank when the lights went out and when I went to bed. The next morning they were GONE. I have looked all around the tank and they did not jump. I know that my water parameters are spot on as I have tested it a ton lately thinking it may be the problem. Is it possible the pistol is stalking these smaller fish at night and making an entree out of them? If so, would it make more sense to move it to my 125 reef where there are no small fish it could capture?

I was going to tell you about adding a symbiotic goby but according to LiveAquaria "Unlike some other Snapping Shrimp the Bullseye Snapping Shrimp does not normally form a symbiotic relationship with gobies (e.g. Amblyeleotris or Stonogobiops), but rather is a free-living reef species." I think you might be right. The shrimp goes hungry and starts to hunt for whatever food there is in the tank. If you put it in your bigger tank, is there hermits or snails in there? If there is not enough food, it might go after them.

I learned it would not pair up with a goby only after being told it would by what has always been a really reputable LFS owner. That was the only reason I bought it was to pair up with a Yasa Hashi that I bought at the same time. Oddly, now that I think of it, that goby vanished also. I think I have a fish murderer in my nano! :) In my large tank there would be much more food available for it to survive. I feed the nano much lighter due to the need for a light bioload and no protein skimmer worth its weight in dung for a nano.

Man, sorry the LFS mislead you. That was an expensive food bill for the shrimp.
