hello, one question....
I am making plans on getting back in the hobby but i want to start small, so I am planning on setting up a 40 gal breeder, 36" x 18" x 16", I was thinking on getting t5s because of the heat issue but,
1. Do you think this reflector will cover that area?
I welcome any inputs from anybody that may have an opinion about this.
thanks

Glad to hear your back in the game :) I actually ran this reflector as the single light source plus 2 t5 for a while and it was fine, but towards the edge of the tank left and right i did have a little shade. This was with the reflector abou 7" above the water, so im sure if it is higher it will get your a bit more coverage. The only problem i see is if its not going to be in a canopy you will have light bleeding from the front and rear.
Tank size:36X30X18
Hope that helps.

No. You'll have a lot of light in the center, but you wont get much in the way sides of the tank, even the upper half. You could always supplement with t5s though.

Adding T5s will just be too much for a 40 breeder...I will do more research about it, I will get back to you if I decide to buy them, thanks for the inputs and the honesty by the way.

Too much to do or too much light? Depends what you have as far as lighting. I used to have a 400 and two t5s on my 40 breeder. ;)

what do you think....the 250W + 4 x 39W (36") 2 of them actinics and 2 daylights??...would that be enough?....by the way that ballast is a beast, i sold one a while ago, the good thing is it would be perfect for a radium bulb

thats hella light!! for a breeder but why not? i can smell the coral flesh from here already kidding...
i mean my tank is 18 tall and i can grow from the sand bed, and i have the light mounted about 10" from the water. It does get pretty darn hot though haha, and you are right that ballast is beast! i originally bought it for some radiums but ended up with the phoenix bulbs instead.
