So I have been doing very slow build of my new 150 in wall down in my basement, and I thought I would share a different way of accesing the front that I came up with.
Now i've never been a big fan of upswing hinged doors. It just seems like an accident waiting to happen if the door slams shut (I tend to drink a little to much) on the front of the tank.
So when I finished off my basment I used alot of 1x6 tongue and groove to give it the lodge feel. So I kept with the same style around the front side of my tank. I used 1x6 T&G panels that slide in a groove i made from the right side of the tank. I then made a trick little endcap piece that locks everything into place. When all the panels are in place it looks like one solid unit that can't be opened.
Maybe some pics would help:lolspin:

Nice work, but do you have access from the other side. I would think changing lights or moving rocks around would be cumbersome with all of those panels.

Are you going to stain it? I love the wheel.

96x24x20tall I ran the bottom piece of trim up about 3" on the front of the tank to keep me from bumping into the (shallow) sand bed with the algae magnet and scratching the tank. So I guess the actual viewing heigth is about 17"

nice.. i am looking into having a 96"x16"x16" acrylic tank built and yours is the closest thing i have been able to compare sizeing too. i love the long shallow look it has. good job

i fear the wood will swell and give you troubles if frequent removal is necessary...if this is for intermittent access it looks great...and yes you tank has very nice dimensions...

Hello,

I would also have the fear of the weood swelling - and would hate to remove and put back in place the single panels - I would have put together a few ones to bigger single sections.

regards
