Clown tang primer

Did any one see the clown tang DD had yesterday it was beautiful.I don't know if one had been started already but I thought I would start one.LA has this fish as expert only.What makes this fish experts only?

POOR survival rate in captivity is what makes it an "expert"

The main things to know they get big really fast, mean really fast and require a very large tank to keep them at bay

if you like this fish. you might as well look at the sohal tang. they are large, aggresive, ad swim a lot, the only difference is the sohal is much hardier

Clown gangs are considered expert because of there survival rate and how they can get ich. On that note I love my Clown tang. I got him when he was about a inch and a half or so and now he's about 4". Haven't had any problems with him at all. I had him for about a year now.

I had one, VERY aggressive; toward every thing in the tank, not just other tangs. He was in a 220, I had to catch him and get him out. He never got sick, was real hardy....but again he started killing every thing in the tank.

I think the answers cover both of the big reasons. They have poor survival rates, and those that do survive are usually terrors.

I did see the one on live aquaria's diver's den yesterday, it was very nice. I wish I had the large tank it would require to keep it successfully :)

I agree with what everyone else has said. I had a 4" clown tang at one point in my 75g reef tank back when I was first starting in the hobby and it was a mean, mean, MEAN fish. I loved it's looks but I ended up selling it, it simply hated any other fish being in the tank.
