Some new photos of Flash Gordon, after having a bunch of people over I'm not 100% on the orange socket tang ID anyone have any other suggestions? He's constantly changing color from black to white and has the craziest silver lines when he's angry.

how large is the tang? I'm not 100% sure I agree with a acanthurus nigricauda. Could also be a Acanthurus blochii or an eye line tang which I can't find a picture of. And if you mean by orange socket as in the same as an orange shoulder it is defintely not that fish.

Almost looks like a Brown-Eared Surgeonfish (Acanthurus gahhm) or (Acanthurus nigricauda).

Hey, i'm pretty sure I have this fish too...

I wondered what length yours is? Mine is 10cm at the moment and when angry comes up with insane black and silver lines all over the sides. The main body also changes from silver into black.

Hi!
Thatīs a Acanthurus auranticavus (Orange-socket surgeonfish).

I'd say Acanthurus nigricauda moreso than auranticavus due to the tail. The OP's photo has a near complete white tail whereas auranticavus has the typical Ringtail (white ring).

This is why they (auran's) are called Ringtail surgeons here.

Ok, i know Ringtail surgeons as A. blochi.

Thanks for your reply, but the dorsal and anal fins by Acanthurus nigricauda are pointed at the end (spitz).
Contrast, the Acanthurus auranticavus they are more round, just like here in this photos.
The horizontal black stripe behind the upper gill opening even absent and this surgeonfish ist over 6 cm, i guess (juvenil < 6 cm donīt have that black band).

For me is that a Acanthurus auranticavus.

Just my two centīs.:)
