what color is it? i have never sen a bright red kenya. in the picture it looked red. also chili corals do not experience phototropism i believe. this means, they will not bend upwards toward the light. a kenya tree will, because they are photosynthetic

I have Kenya, and that's not it. Maybe someone else can ID.

BTW, KTC isn't bad like Aiptasia Bad. They do drop branches on a regular basis, which is really only a problem in a high flow tank. Then they would tend to blow around in the tank till they came to rest somewhere you can't see them, or get to them. In a moderate to lower flow tank, the "saplings" will just fall below the main colony and start to grow there. If you never did anything to remove, trade or give away the saplings, then yeah, they might take over the tank, but it doesn't just happen overnight.
IMO, KTC is a great looking coral...I think it gets a bad rap.

Here are some that I've chosen to let grow out. They are about 8" under the main colony. I've had it for about 6 months.

Not so sure that is a chili. I have a Chili, and it looks nothing like that. AFAIK, Chili coral can be from 2 genera, Alcyonium or Nephthyigorgia. You can google those and see if any match yours. Here is what my chili looks like:

I dont get the hate for KTC either. I have a big one and a little sapling next to it in my tank and I think they look great.

I know I am being the negative guy here, but that doesn't look like a strawberry coral either. Strawberry coral, aka red silk coral, aka Scleronephthya sp. I have one, and I googled to look for pics, and none of them look like what you have.

You guys sure about chili coral needing to be upside down? I have Eric Borneman's book on coral husbandry, and there is nothing there about chili needing to be upside down.

Anyway, here is my Starwberry coral. Like I said, I googled for pics, and can't find one that matches yours. Sorry, but don't actually know what yours is, just what it isn't.

if it is indeed chili coral, it doesnt need to be upside down. It can be upside down and wont turn itself upright the way a photosynthetic coral will.

It is really tough to tell from that photo. Can you get one closer, showing some polyps? Has it ever expanded any larger than that?

most of the time in aquariums i see chili corals right side up, but i think thats just because its kinda inconvenient to have them hanging upside down in most cases. I have read that in nature they are usually found upside down in caves or under overhangs. also, i figured it was retracted and wrinkly in that pic, which is why there are no evident polyps. IDK exact species names or anything, and im still betting its a chilli, but its definitely not a kenya :D

Thats a Dendronephthya in poor condition, and no they don't "do well if fed well." They pretty much need specialized systems to keep alive. Check out the non-photosynthetic forum for more info.

I agree with original fin. We have the aqua culture facility here.Last time i was in there i received 3 differnt colored "tree corals"

I have a red one and its smaller than yours but its just a relitive of the kenya they do need light and like feeding. I dont think its a Chili tho.

THere cool looking. I guess youll find out soon what it is....

+1 on dendronepthya. A coral best left in the ocean IMO, but good luck with it.

You can try placing it under some light and see if it perks up. It shouldn't affect it if it is dendronephthya, and may help if it is stereonephthya.
