We just purchased a gorgeous Carpenter Wrasse yesterday. We have a 75g tank with the following: Randall's Goby, Tiger Goby, Pink spot Goby, Scooter Blenny, Firefish, and...... a Six-line Wrasse. Everyone paid no attention to the new arrival except....the Six-line Wrasse. Normally, the Six-line has to check out everything when first being acclimated in the tank while still floating. Corals, fish, pistol shrimp, snails, etc. However, it barely paid any attention to the Carpenters Wrasse...while in the bag. When I finally released the new Wrasse, it went and hid in the rocks. Ok...normal. After an hour or so, it finally started to venture out. The Six-line immediately was over to it and they circled and circled and flared their fins. I assumed that they were establishing who was boss. This would go on for 10-15 minutes and then they would part. However, the Six-line kept going back to where the Carpenter's had taken up residence under a large Cup Coral that is in the rocks. By last night, the Carpenter's was hiding under some rocks while the moon lights were on.

This morning, when the blue lights came on and everyone began swimming about waiting for food, the Carpenter's emerged and was fine. The Six-line made a B line for him and a chase ensued, with the Carpenter's basically trying to jump out of the tank! At this point, the Carpenter's has found a cave in the rocks and is in there. Darn near no way to catch it without taking apart the tank. The Six-line would be far easier to catch as all I have to do is add food. Not having another tank, it is apparent one will have to go if both are going to survive. Any ideas or thoughts or do I throw in the towel, catch the Six-line (which I thoroughly enjoy as he is the most active fish in the tank) and return it to the LFS?

Catch the six line and ask someone/LPS to keep it for you for a while. (sump it if your system allows)
Reintroduce it after 2 weeks, maybe it will live with the Carpenters then?

Six line wrasses often do NOT get along with fairy and flasher wrasses. In my opinion, you have to choose one or the other.

Six lines are a pain!
