I have a skimmer with two needle wheel skimmer pumps that are in the iower half of the skimmer, Below the pumps is the bulkhead fitting to feed water from the sump to the skimmer. It needs to be pipe up so that the water will not drain out when the needle wheel pumps are running and the feed pump is off.

Is this an in-sump skimmer where you can just set it in the water or external, where you run a pipe from the sump to it?

Give us some specifics like size/type/pump size, name. Were your putting it: in sump/hang on/ next to sump. Then we can give you some schematics and idea's.

You can use check valve , and you also can add top off inside the skimmer when the water level down it will shut off the skimmer pumps something like this but you can modify that.

Use an upturned elbow & pipe to get to 7-8". It would basically act like a standpipe to control the amount of water in the skimmer. Since the pipe would be 7-8" from the bottom water shouldn't run back out of the skimmer when you turn it off.
