plasma wall mount bracket for hood

I have a 33gal tank that i need to make a hood to house a 24 LED unit. I have shelves above the tank so i cant hang the light form the cieling. I was thinking of using a bracket thats used for hanging plasma tv's. I can get a bracket that will hold about 33lbs. so i think the hood will be under that weight as ill be skinning the hood with acrylic.

Has anybody thought of or has used these type of brackets for their hood?

these brackets are made for holding XXX wieght, in basicly a vertical plane. Unless its really, really light I'd look for another option.

Those wall mounts are surprisingly strong. At first I was afraid to mount my TV but it's held up for a couple of years now. I can't imagine a LED fixture skinned in acrylic being heavier than a TV. It does have to be mounted directly into a stud so if your tank isn't centered with a stud the mount will be off center.

You could always weigh your fixture, mount the bracket, & test it with weights before mounting your fixture to it.

those mounts are strong, i have a 42" plasma on one of those that comes aay from the wall and can move it all over the place, 3 lag bolts into the stud in the wall, i would think your hood will weigh alot less than my plasma at 95 lbs

If they are in a stud and you mount them right they will hold some serious weight. I have a hood mounted on the wall coming out over 3feet mounted with red heads (lag bolts) knock on wood it is not going anywhere. I drilled mine into exterior block.

You could always hang the light from the shelf if it comes off the wall, real clean look.
