What's the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of a project plan? Boring, uncreative, lots of red tape, a waste of time? Stop and think about this for a moment, whether it's a business, a vacation, or setting up a salt water aquarium, the results are predictably better when you have planned for the task at hand and make educated decisions.
Utilize the experience of others, learn from their mistakes, and replicate their successes; by doing so you will save yourself a lot of time, money and frustration and possibly a quick exodus from the hobby.
I intend to enjoy every aspect of the journey and don't understand why some folks are in such a hurry. It's not a race to see who can get a tank set up in the shortest amount of time, rather it should be about showcasing those tanks that exhibit the healthiest animals over the longest period of time.
If the fun of the hobby is diminished for you when you can't "buy" something new to place in the tank, you may want to consider collecting inanimate objects instead of living creatures.
