View Full Version : Powerheads and a Eurobraced Tank

I currently have a Eurobraced tank and use Vortechs for flow in my tank. As you may know, no wires go inside the tank. Recently, I've been thinking about changing to Tunzes and don't know how I can run the wire inside the tank.

Does anyone have any pictures of a non drilled Eurobraced tank with powerheads inside the tank?
TIA

Not very detailed as far as the wires go, but heres my eurobraced tank with Tunze's. I'll get a more specific picture for you in a little

Why would you switch to tunze? You already have the better pump.

You run the wires for a tunze like any other pump. If your not going to drill the eurobrace they just hang in there. Ugly IMO. You can try to hide them with rocks.

Thanks, do you have pics with the hood open?

My tank will be running next week. check my build thead and you will see what i am doing. wires will go thru my external overflow comb. i'm using cable clip things to run the wires under the substrate then up the very corners of the tank, then under the eurobrace.

Main reason is noise and to try something new.
Here's a picture of my tank.

As you can see, it's an open top and wire management is pretty important.

About how thick is your bracing? How do you like the wires not dropping straight in?

Im planning a new tank and it will be eurobraced as well, but im going to have holes drilled in it to fit the Tunze cables through. Its not that bad to notice the way it is now, but drilling the eurobrace will make it cleaner.

As far as the "Vortec vs. Tunze" debate goes though, I have both on this tank pictured, and they both have there drawbacks. Tunze= cord inside tank and not so appealing, Vortec= cord outside tank and it makes it harder to clean the glass with the magnet around the dryside AND outside wire.

I wish I would have thought of drilling the holes when I ordered my tank. Oh well. Good luck with your new build

I am working on this same issue, 2-1/2" wide bracing that is 1/2" thick. Open top and cord management is an issue, fortunately it is a minor issue at the moment. Powerhead placement and mounting is a bigger and more important issue.

My tank presents challenges, 40x40x25x19x25, 17" tall and 1/2" glass, scrounging larger magnet mounts currently and providing strong flow in 40" is rough. My sand is all over the place. Vortec is not an option, I hate cords hanging out of the tank more than seeing them in the tank, not to mention the noise would drive me nuts, current setup is a Tunze 6060, a K4 and a MaxiMod with a small prop and a cut shroud MJ on a wave timer for random flow, all are silent and I like it that way.

I am looking forward to seeing how others deal with the cords, I may be stealing some ideas. :-)

Mike,

I have a Tunze you can borrow if you want to try it out, 6125. Not the programable type but at least you can see what it will look like and feels like.

I don't like the profile its real bulky. It's silent, wider flow than the vortech, and if my tank wasn't so small I would only use the tunze. My vortech is real loud, louder than a noisy overflow and it can be heard when it peaks too full throttle, in my bedroom with the door closed and 70 feet away up the stairs. I love the reef crest. If tunze would just add the controller to the dang pump they would have a winner.

mike,

you're finding the 2 mp40 too loud? i'm debating between 2 mp40's or 1 mp60.
