Does anybody here know anything about the communications between the aquacontroller and a direct connect 8? I'm talking about on that 4-wire "phone cord". Just the pin-out on that connector would get me going, but any other info would be very useful.

I'm assuming its a serial connection, but I don't know if it's synchronous or not. I would like to be able to use those boxes with a different micro-controller. I do a lot of serial communication stuff, but I don't really trust myself to build something to handle mains voltage. But I want something more programmable than an aquacontroller. Something like arduino.

Thanks a bunch

Try the Neptune forum somebody will know there. I'm pretty sure the DC pin-outs are not listed in the AC instruction booklet, but I know the serial cables, VSPs, and AquaSurf pinouts are... you might check just to be sure (it's available on Neptune's site if you don't have one).
