My tank is 29 gals, and have 30~35 pounds of base rock and about 3 pounds of live rock, i will probly get more live rock soonish. I used a shrimp to start the cycle 2 days ago, its already starting to get all white and decayish, i read somewhere that you should take the shrimp out, i also have read the opposite? so could some one please share there knowlegde on the subject should i keep it in or remove it or what?

if you have an ammonia level in your tank then you can take it out. when I used the shrimp method I would leave it in for 2 days then take it out.

ya thats the thing my father got me fresh water test kits instead of saltwater for christmas so i cant really know til tomorow for test kits or else i would have checked.

So i think il take it out and test tomorow and if it didnt work buy another shrimp?

i think ammonia kits are the same in fresh water as saltwater. what brand?

If the ammonia is zero, that's fine. I'd remove the shrimp, take the measurements when possible, and work from there.

Your freshwater test kit should work fine as long as it test pH, Amonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels. Two days is a good rule of thumb.

I would remove the shrimp if the biological filtration is working and ammonia is zero, however if there is still a reading leave it in, let it disintergrate in there in need be, best to get a saltwater ammonia and nitrite kit asap, to be sure what to do TBH.
