Are golden blenny's rare? Do they keep their golden color or does the color change? Ive heard that some golden ones change to black? I have the chance to buy one thats stayed gold for 1.5 years, I've got a 65g tank that im thinking about adding him to. The seller is asking $75 for him, is this a fair price? Thanks everyone.

I have one, and think they are great fish. Not sure how rare, but I have seen about 4 offered on Diver's Den over the last 2 years. From my research they are suppose to get black -- mine hasn't reached that point yet, but is a bit "duller". If you do get it, don't freak out if you look at it during the middle of the night -- will be blotchy gray.
When I first got it,

I have one that I purchased off of DD about 6 months ago. It's grown into a 3"+ fat pig. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that it is a color variant that will remain yellow.

Im hoping it would stay gold/yellow also. They are "Atrosalarias fuscus" and not the similar Ecsenius midas. I think its the Ecsenius midas that change their color after they become adults and not the A. Fuscus. Hopefully someone might know the answer...

I too have one that I have had for a little over 3 years now. He has was gold when I got him and is more of a mustard yellow now. They are variants of the Black Sailfin Blenny. They are all hatched gold/yellow and turn black. The fish that do not turn black and stay yellow are less common and more sought after by collectors. When I was in Okinawa last year I found a rock with about 50 small blennies that were all yellow.
It will be one of the best fish you have. They are awesome.
