Question about chiller

Ok Guys I have a question. As of right now im using a mag 7 on my chiller, I want to cut down on some watts and also the Mag is very old and super loud.. I was thinking of gravity feeding the chiller from one of my drains? Any problem with doing that?

It should be fine, things to be aware of: Make sure you have the proper GPH flow through the chiller, too slow and it can cause the chiller to freeze, too fast and the water is not cooled efficiently. Other issue is you are passing unfiltered water through the chiller, you will need to ensure that it does not clog and should be cleaned regularly to prevent build up.

Thanks for the reply. Flow rate is 450-1200 Its a JBJ Arctica 1/5. Im sure my drain is moving some water :) I would guess about 600 gph, since i have a 1200 gph return minus head height of 4 FT.
