New to the hobby so I can blame myself for not checking up on what I was buying. So I went to the LFS, Ed's Ped World Birmingham Al, and saw a couple of cool looking anemones, Condies. They told me they were filter feeders and I did not have to feed them. Well I put them in this morning and now my two gobies have vanished and I think these guys ate them. The two fish were roughly 5 or 6 inches long. I hope they are hiding under a rock but I've not seen them all day and they are usually very active. Do you think the condies ate them... I hope not...

It's certainly possible. The anemones live off of light and meat. They're not filter feeders, unless you count filtering small fish out of the water... How big are the anemones? Big enough to swallow the fish whole?

It's possible that the gobies got freaked out and are just hiding. If you know where they usually sleep (and it's not a cave under the rocks), check there after lights out. Gobies can dissapear for a long time. They're sneaky like that.

Sounds like that anemone needs a lot of light. It may not make it in your fuge unless you have some T5s or MH over it.

I dont think you have to worry about the condies eating the fish if they are healthy.

I agree with Mike - anemone's only eat that which is unhealthy, dieing, or dead. They won't be able to yank a fish out of the water column and consume it. We hear about anemone's eating fish from time to time, but as far as I can tell its always when the fish is sick. If the anemone wouldn't have gotten it, the crabs would have.

I am guessing that you haven't kept S. Haddonis??

They can/will eat perfectly healthy fish, just very minor contact is all that is needed for them to grab onto the fish -- they stick like glue.

I wouldn't put it past a "Condy" to eat a health fish either.

I've got t5 ho lighting in my fuge and I think I'm keeping them there where they can't eat my fish. I've read on the internet they will go around the tank looking for food...

Glad to see that your fish were just hiding. I probably would move the anemone since you have the lighting. I've also seen fish get spooked and accidentally run into an anemone's tentacles, too. Best to play it safe.
