Hello everyone,

After being out of the hobby for a few years, ive decided to take the plunge back in. For the members still around from my time im Kevin and alot of you knew me as Chucks nephew. I had a lot of fun in this club and am looking foward to enjoying being back in the hobby.

Im starting up a JBJ 28g nano with the PC lighting as im only looking to go for a Softie/LPS setup. Really love the nano. Right now i have my saltwater and sand in the tank. Have the 2 stock 266 gph dual return pumps in the tank now and a koralia 425 on the way. Some have said i wouldnt need a skimmer for the tank but i really want the best water quality i can manage so i also have a tunze 9002 skimmer on the way. To make this fit i had to order a narrow collection cup to fit in the center chamber in the back of the nano.

One question i do have is if anyone knows of a LFS that has some really nice quality LR to start my cycle? Looking to get around 25lbs for this mixed reef. I know Country Critters has some rock but it didnt seem to pourous and didnt seem like good nano rock.

Thanks! Glad to be back

Kevin

I purchased 100 lbs of dry Pukani Rock from Bulk Reef Supply and seeded it with other LR purchased locally. You will save a lot of $$$. The Puknai is very pourous and you can request sizes appropriate to your tank. My tank is large so they sent very nice sized pieces. Overall I am very happy with the rock.

It was basically around what i was finding online. The rock came to about $140. Then I couldnt resist and purchased a hydor koralia 425 for a few bucks more then what i found online for $32. Please dont tell me you had a bunch of rock! LOL

Thanks Vinny, and yes im going to try to make the next one saying school doesnt get in the way!

Quick question, I have read many different things and people seem to have mixed feelings on running the skimmer during the cycle. Any suggestions?

Looking good

For the skimmer, no harm with letting her rip and starting out with maintaining the best water quality you can during the cycle.

Hey guys,

Quick question, the tanks on day 7 of the cycle. Im seeing some life such as baby snails, some asterina starfish and some pods. Ive also seen a couple of decent sized copepods floating at the top of the water dead. Im assuming thats normal during the cycle? I also see an extremely small specimen at the very very bottom of the rock right up against the sandbed that has tentacles. Im nervous that this could be aiptasia but its so small i cant be to sure. Any suggestions?
