:furious: How many degrees increases the temperature of your water? 1,2,3,4 or more Fahrenheit degree
Specify how many you have and how many watts they have ...:furious:

My 2 x 175 halides dont raise the temperature at all, even if i lay the fixture directly ontop of the aquarium. They are enclosed in a fixture with two fans: one blowing in and another blowing out.

Mine raise the temp about 2 degrees until my fans kick on and stabilize them. Without the fans i'm sure they would just continue to raise the temp in the tank until it cooked. Fans are a must with any lights IMO. You need to get air in and out of the canopy.

I have (2) 250w at approx 8" above the water surface of my 110g for 8hrs per day. In the summer I go up 2 degrees after around 6 hrs run time. At 2 deg increase my ReefKeeper kicks some fans on and the temp does not climb any higher. In the winter I keep the house at 69 when we are home and 64 when we are at work so the fans never come on. During the summer months, the house is at 72 when we are home and 76 when we're working. So, the house is 12 degrees colder during most of the day in the winter time.

800w over a 75g? That's some SERIOUS lighting overkill man.
I had 2x250's over a 75g and my tank temp raised 5* an hour after the lights kicked on.

I have 4X96 watt PC actinics and 3X250 MH (1,134 watts total) resting directly on my DT and there is no heat transfer at all, zero degrees.
But my fixture is enclosed and well ventilated.

800 over a 75 is a little much...depending on how high the lights are off the tank. Maybe he used to have a larger tank with 400s and didn't wanna buy another set? Hard to tell, but ya I agree...seems like a waste of energy.

yes it is overkill however I run 20k XM bulbs and the bulbs are 14" above the water so I wanted the par of 10k bulbs but the look of 20k

actually I got this set at a very good price, and the main reason I got the 400's rather than 250's for the 75 gal. is for the future upgrade that I am planning, this way I don't have to buy all new equipment.

+2 degrees until the fans kick on. Evaporation is a powerful cooling phenominon.

2x250w Over a 75G
I have the fan that kicks on during the summer when the lights go on and temp stays right at 79. During Winter months, I have the fan unplugged and it does not raise temp at all.

What fans are you guys using that kick in when the temp raises? and where can I get some?

the fans would be connected to a controller, the controller turns the fans on when the temp hits a designated point.

Ice Cap used to make a variable speed fan that barely runs and speeds up as the heat increases but I think Ice Cap is out of business for the time being.

That sucks. Do you guys know of any other company that makes these or is there a DIY I can do. Im really just wondering what time of controller to use that measueres the temp. I can use PC fans.

just get a cheap clip on fan from walmart they work very good. I have mine hooked up to a dual stage ranco temp controller

If you are going to pay for a Ranco controller get a nice quiet fan.
Do a search on sofasco.
