hello all,
so I have recently heard you can dip New LR in salt water and salinity of 40PPT, and that will drive out all crabs and shrimps and ....
fact or fiction ?

FW dip would be more effective, IMO. Sit in freshwater for 10 mins

wouldnt the osmotic shock and pressure kill all bacteria and sponged and .. on LR ?
I dont want to kill the LR, just want to get the crabs and unwanted shrimps/lobsters out.

Super salinity soak/dip works. I've done it numerous times with 1.035+ salinity. Driven out numerous crabs and a few mantis. A freshwater soak is going to kill everything, beneficial bacteria included, leaving you with expensive base rock.

10 mins in a freshwater dip isn't going to kill bacteria that can survive 2 days shipping dry in a cooler.

If the rock was shipped bone dry it would kill the bacteria, the rock is shipped moist and there is die off. A freshwater soak will kill the rock.

I am 100% sure it would, after all, that is the reason we do freshwater dip on fish :) to kill the parasites and bacteria living on it ...
thanks guys :) will try the higher salinity tonight to see how it goes.
