View Full Version : Anyone using a surge system?

I want to set up some type of surge device on my frag tank. It is too shallow to run my MP40s and I would like to create more intense random flow. I have seen all of the typical Carlson surge, and reverse carlson but am looking for something a little different.
Is anyone utilizing one of these systems? Explain your set up if so. Thanks

I know ReefSki was on his 700g system. Its seems to be more of a pain than it's worth.

The tank is only 8" deep, and I have no extra real estate inside the tank.
I was thinking of something like a dump truck just outside the tank. Fill it up, and once the couter weight is overpowered by the weight of the water it would dump into the tank.
I was only thinking to do maybe a gallon or two, but cycle it ever few minutes.
OR:
Use selenoid valves and float switches, and I could make it silent with virtually no bubbles/saltspray.

Maybe just use a closed loop with an scwd

Im already running a scwd on the return lines. But adding a closed loop is a possibilty. I am just trying to avoid having to empty the tank to drill it.
And a surge device doesnt add to the mothly electrical bill :D
