View Full Version : Your tidiest RO/DI under-sink hookup...

Looking for pics of how people have plumbed their RO/DI unit feed lines.

I'd like to have the cleanest, sturdiest setup possible, with the fewest parts, and a valve to control pressure to the RO tubing.

The starting point is a setup that very much resembles this:

There's a valve (not pressure, but a flow controlling valve) with an adapter that mounts in between your feed line and supply valve. And the drain is a saddle valve. Is that a clean enough example for you?

It's a 90/day. 1/4" tubing is probably sufficient for even larger units, though. I don't have first-hand experience with larger systems, so I can't say for certain. I'd look up the specs of the system you are looking at to see what size tubing, but you could still effect a similar style install to what I did even with larger tubing - the adapters still should be applicable and the plate you see in my photo is simply a cover with appropriate-sized holes drilled in it.

Very nice.

Hard to tell how many separate pieces that is. Were you able to get those pieces at the likes of Home Depot? I looked last week, but didn't see any fittings that resembled your mini-valve, or the RO fitting.

Maybe I need to to try a hardware store or plumbing supply house.

I ordered it all from the vendor of my RODI system. I used spectra-pure since that's the make of my unit. They sell all of the parts that you see here... the mini-valve can be found with refrigerator water systems. Not sure about the adapter for it though. The drain is a 1/4" saddle.

Thanks. Looks like the parts are on this page...

Yep. That appears to be what I ordered! The MD fitting looks like it should work as well... Looks like MD sells both the spectra-pure brand that I own and one of the drain saddles. Just search their site for saddle...

How did you hook it up to your RO unit? Did it originally have a 1/4 feed line?

I'd like to connect into my icemake water line, but my RO unit has a 3/8th feed line.

Yes, my RO system originally had a 1/4 feed line. It goes from the faucet line tap through the wall and up to the RODI unit which is mounted at the top of the wall in the closet.

Home improvement stores carry adapters to go from 1/4" to 3/8" tubing. Beware that while unlikely, your 1/4" line MAY not be able to carry enough volume to feed the RODI that takes 3/8" line.

Very nice setup. I was just looking at all of those pieces. I am planning on using that larger 1/2" threaded ball joint to connect my RO/DI to the shower.
