I am looking to see what kind of light I am going to use for my refugium. It will be running 24/7 so it needs to be cold, LEDs are a no brainer. My refugium is about 11"L x 10"W x 14"H. I was thinking to either PAR from Rapid LED (not sure if I should use the PAR30 or PAR38) or a DIY retrofit kit with a 4.25" x 9" heat sink (again not sure if I should go 6 or 12 LED kit or which lenses would be best). What do you all suggest? Which would be brighter or cooler? It looks like if I were to go with the DIY kit I would have to do some more research on DIY LEDs any advice would be great. I am more or less a noob to electronics but I do have access to a soldering iron.

Thanks for the advice

I'm certainly no expert but you might do a little research on the 24/7 idea. Most of the stuff I've read recommends refugium lighting be on opposite the tank lighting which I believe is supposed to aid pH stability.

I agree that you want to run your fuge light on an opposite schedule as the tank lighting. With regards to using LED's, you can certainly use a PAR 38 bulb but for that small a size and depth I would do a simple DIY LED kit. The number and type would depend on what you want to keep in their as well.

I think I read somewhere that you will be better off with a neutral white rather than cool white for growing algae.
