I got my new refractometer today.

I calibrated it using the 35 ppt solution I got with it.

I used the screwdriver and got the blue color to meet the white on 0.

I did have to twist the screw all the way down to get it on 0. Not sure if that's normal or not.

When I take a sample from my tank, the line doesn't move. It just sits on 0.

Am I doing something wrong?

The water is completely covering the plate on the refractometer.

Once you set it to 35 ppt you dont have to move the screw its set. Wipe of the calibration fluid and drop your water on it and it will tell you your salinity. There is no need to move the screw after you calibrate it.

After re reading your post you get the blue line to the 35 ppt not to 0. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you calibrated it wrong. With the 35 ppt solution you should have moved the line to 35 ppt not 0.

Oh ok. Must have read the instructions wrong. I thought it said to calibrate it to 0.

Thanks for the input!
