the underside of him (his belly) is pure white/cream (no spots at all). His body for the main part is the same color as well as his fins but has the patterned dark splotches. I'll try to get a better photo today

Okay I managed to get a couple of clear shots of his back where the pattern is and one that turned out a bit blurry to show his side and belly.

Could it be a bullseye puffer?!

Did you catch it or purchase it? If you caught it, you could probably find out what species of puffers are in your waters.

I didn't catch it. A fish store had it but had no room for it so i brought it home and put him in my sump. He was neglected. Hoping to identify him so I can find out if he might be safe in my main tank or cube.

Looks to be in the Sphoeroides genus if I had to guess.

If your main tank is a reef, than you've already i.d.'d it as a puffer and shouldn't put it in there. ;)

Checkered puffer (Sphoeroides testudineus). Puffers don't belong in cubes & are not reef safe.
