I purchased a 56 gallon column tank today. My only concern is that there is a plastic crossbar for support across the middle of the tank for support, and I have a light fixture with a single 250w metal halide bulb that will be blocked. Can I remove the crossbar and epoxy two pieces of plastic a quarter of the way on each side for support? Help me please!

search the DIY forum for center brace replacement. I did the steel wire replacement. Problem with mine was rust.

I ran a single MH over the center of a 38 and used glass as the center brace--just had to cut two pieces of acrylic and used a torch to form them to the shape of the tank frame. Then drilled two holes in each of the acrylic end pieces and drilled two holes in each end of the glass brace (got the bit for ~$5 on ebay) and then connected the three pieces with nylon screws & nuts. Glued the whole thing to the tank with superglue gel. Worked like a charm
