Woke up this morning, and my wrasse was laying (above sand) on his side. I have had him a year this month. He has always been fine, everyone else in the tank is fine. Took him out put him in quarantine, put some melafix in with him, checked levels on tank. Nothing out of whack there.

My thought is that he may have been stung by my foxface. He picks on him, as do alot of other fish. He has hung in there all day, but I don't know what to do for him.

Please if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

Thanks

most times in these cases all you can do is wait it out and see

Well he is still alive this morning, my concern is whether he is suffering.

Anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong with him. I am really thinking he got stung by the foxface, but when I researched it, i didn't come with anyone saying its happened to them.

Not sure what could be wrong with him. But if he was stung by the foxface, all you can do is wait and see what happens. In this case, I think that the best thing you can do is wait it out and do nothing that will make things worse. Too many times we as hobbiest make things worse by trying to make things better. Sometimes it is betters to just sit back and wait it out. Even though sitting idly by is hard to do.

Good luck...

thanks eveyone, he's still hanging in.

CakemanPA I completely agree i have been running this tank for 3 years now, and my water chemistry has always been perfect, and i think the biggest reason, is I do NOTHING. I don't mess with the tank, i just let the system and live rock do its job which it has. If i lose this fish it would be my first one (unknown reason) the other was a clown i caught my trigger snacking on but that was a year ago.

Thanks again

Are you sure he wasn't just resting? My orange saddle wrasse will just lay on the sand from time to time. But not on his side as you describe.

No he was acting all eratic bumping into the rocks and swimming in circles, and upside down, then he'd go back to laying on his side. Very strange

He is still alive this morning. I don't know if its me just being hopeful, but when i make him move from laying on his side he seems to be a little more upright. Yesterday i tried to put him back in the display ( he is in the sump now) and my mac angel poked ( or bit not sure) at him. I might try again today, i know he would be happier in his sand, but if anyone bothers him again, out he will come.

I hope he makes it:hmm2:

I would stop moving him around. It is stressful moving him around

He has been in the sump since yesterday and is doing ok ( i guess) still not sure whats going on with him, but only time will tell.

another concern however, is he hasn't eaten in a few days now.

I lost my Green Grass Wrasse in a similar fashion. In any case, he seemed a little off at first and would bump into things. Fish that normally left him alone started to pick on him, and he didn't last long after that. He was full size when I got him, so it may have just been old age? My other thought was that he went through a copper treatment a few months before he died.

Still alive. HMMMM He is just either laying on his side or if i bump him he will swim around a bit. He was more an aggressor in the tank so i don't think anyone picked on him. No copper treatments at all. I am afraid to put him in the main tank again because the day i tried that the mac nipped at him. Still also not eating.

my toby puffer did the same thing after nipping my full grown dwarf lion. it took about 4 days then he passed! :(

he did all the same stuff u are saying.

so him getting stung by the foxface sounds very likely

Thats what i am afraid of he is still alive at this point but still not moving around and not eating.

I am starting to consider euthanasia. I don't want him to suffer. But i keep thinking he could just snap out of it. Tough decision. Its a shame he is a gorgeous fish!

Thanks everyone for all your replies.
