You dont need alot maybe 5 pounds live for every 50 dead.

yeah, I really didn't take any "ratio" into consideration when I seeded my dead rock. I just made sure to have a piece of LR on the top of any pile of dead stuff I had.

I would only use a few pieces of live rock rubble which can be purchased dirt cheap. Inspect it as best you can. It will seed it soon enough.
