Auto Top Off Questions? Pump?

I have an oceanus auto-top off system and it seems to be gravity fed or appear that you need some sort of pump or pressure into the system for it to work. Can i use a dosing pump? My water sits below the top-off unit so can i use some sort of pump to move it through? does the pump have to stay on constanly until the auto top off calls for water?

thats exactly what i was looking at. Do you run that alone or do you use it with an auto-top off that has a float switch?
