I was doing my top off today and i put too much water in my tank and now my salinity is 1.021. I have a few corals in there. How can I get it back up quick? I dont have any ready WC water ready. Could I just add a little salt to a gallon of water and let it mix for a few hours and add it? My tank is a 29 gallon.

Thanks!

Don't quickly change it again. Everything will be fine, I would just not use freshwater for topoff until it returns to the proper salinity.

You could, but dont add that hyposalinity mix all at once. Not only will the salt content be high, but all your trace elements as well. Either drip add it, or manually and slowly add a 1/2 cup at a time, an hour apart. And add it to your sump if you have one. Slow slow slow. Inverts and corals will be very sensitive to drastic salinity changes. You are not really all that low. 1.022-23 is normal sw. Raise it over a few days.

Whats hyposalinity mix? all I was going to do is mix like a gallon of water, let it mix until like 8:00 eastern time. then add it like a cup full at a time.

i think he meant hyper salinity, it means higher than normal salinity. but you shouldn't have to do that, like clownfreak said, just don't do top off until the salinity returns to normal.

Ya, that's what I meant, sorry.

But I agree, just don't top off. Like I said, you are not dangerously low.
