lets say a system is put together without using: a refugium, live sand, or live rock. if synthetic sea salt is used, and the only inhabitants were fish, would algae grow? if so how? is it something that naturally occurs without having to be introduced, or would the fish bring it in with them? lets say a yellow tang ate algae in another tank, would the algae survive inside the tang to be released into the tank later? just wondering...thanks

algae (for the most part) needs light and nutrients. And in some cases the light isn't necessary if the algae is not photosynthetic. So by introducing your fish into the system, you are providing nutrients. And if your water is not pure H2o, you are also providing nutrients.
