Can someone give me a general idea how loud the MP60 is compared to an MP40? I have read the new MP60s are quieter because of the new design. I am thinking of replacing two MP40s with a single MP60 on a 220g peninsula tank. Thanks..

The MP60 is definitely quieter than my 2 year old MP40W. The difference between minimum and maximum settings is even more obvious.
Again my MP40W is two year old, so I don't know if the newer MP40ES pumps are more quiet.
At any rate, I think two MP40s are better than a single MP60.

I am considering a new 340 gallon tank 72x36x30. Hearing a lot about MP60's some noise concerns). Does anyone have any experience with these (aparrently they are quite new) vs Tunze 6305's? which is better? was thinking of getting 2 or either...

Honestly, I would rather have one quieter MP60 than 2 MP40s. The MP40s don't reach the entire length of my tank anyways which has always bothered me. Since it is a 220g peninsula I am only putting them on one short end. Supposedly the MP60 has a broader flow pattern as well.

So you think the noise on the MP60 is ok. Have you heard of anyone that has had a Vortech for a reasonable period - how long should they last before replacing the drive ($85 I hear).
Is this better than a Tunze 6305? (the angling ability is a draw - though the remote controller options not as good as Vortech). Thoughts on durabilty, flow etc?

I have 1 MP 60 on a 320 (84x30x30). I can hear it on 8/10 setting in NTM from about 12 feet but it is not disturbingly loud. On 4-5/10 I can barely hear it. When the chiller kicks on I can't hear it at all. I am in the process of moving the skimmer, pumps and chiller to a small fish room and the vortec will certainly be more obvious. The flow is great and I would buy one again...I may buy another as I move into sps.. With one I have a standing wave in my tank with a deflection of 1"-1.5". You always have the option to decrease flow during viewing hours.

I am pretty sure I got my first vortech about 3 years ago. Still humming along just fine.

No doubt they are great pumps. My MP40s work fine, just louder than I prefer for my living room.

About how broad of flow would you say the MP60 makes? 12"? More/less?
