Im thinking of doing leds over my 46 gallon bf. I want to keep sps but I also want to do zoas and lps. I want to but a dimmable package from rapid led. I cant decide what I should get or how many leds. I want either 24 or 36 sound like enough to many? thanks. and could you recommend bulbs and what optics to get? thanks.

36 to 48 with dimmable drivers would give you a great amount of light with many options. I am running 24 on my 24 gallon Aquapod. 12 XR-E RB @ 700mA 12 XP-G @ 1000mA.

Hello, compute your surface area and get the square inch total. Divide it by 10(high) leds per sq inch or 15 (low) and the results will be your total HP LED needed for your tank... Just a guideline though... And then just round it off on the packages that you see online...

Maybe this will help... (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1952442)

We talk about the math at post #58

I'm running 34 LED's over my 46g Bowfront with great success for just over a year now. I've been able to keep everything in there I've wanted, however I haven't tried SPS, it's just not my thing. I have no doubt I have enough light to do it as I have to be careful how high up I put certain corals. I'm using Cree XRE-Q5 untis with 60 degree optics around 8" off the water. They are built into 2 17 led units and will be for sale soon as I'm moving into a 180g. PM if interested.

Just after being built. The extra wire was trimmed to length after installation.
