I have noticed recently that my water level in the display is rising. It's only about 1/8" from the top of the overflow box now where as I feel it was 1/4" + before.

I have a egg crate cover over my overflow to prevent mexican turbos from getting in and there was a lot of algae in the box. Could there be excess algae in the pipes? Nothing else has changed and the system has been running for a year with no problems.

120 display, twin 1 1/2" overflows in a single center overflow box, 1290 GPH coralife return pump mounted under the house, twin 1" returns.

Anyone have any insight or advice if it is in fact algae growth in the pipes? I don't think it's possible anything got lodged in it as I have had the cover over the box for months and it just started about a month ago.

Thanks in advance

yea 99.9% it is something stuck in the pipe.

easiest way is to get a thinner tube, so if pipe is 1.5" get like a 3/4" flexible tube, and stick it into the pipe, till it comes out the other way ... and you will see all the junk blocking the flow comin out the other end.

also check the teeth of overflow box ... if algae covered, it slows the flow .

That can't be good.
You should start taking things apart until you find the problem.
You don't want to flood your house, or run your pump dry, or both.

I like the idea of the soft tube to try and free it up. Dismantling the plumbing would be a last resort.

you can even take the cap off to do that,

a "plumbing snake" used to unclog toilets connected to a drill would work the best as it would pull everything out, but those are made out of metal so I am not sure if you can use them.

It was the teeth :) Even though I scrub them often with a tooth brush, they still had algae and coraline caked up. I took a razor and went through each of teeth and it's flowing like normal again. Thanks for the suggestion.
