I am not any expert on fragging. But a piece that has at least one eye has a much greater chance of success.

90% sure you have to frag out an eye. That is the only way they can eat I do believe.

You have to have an eye on each frag or it wont make it.

God I almost hate to do this but I totally disagree I have fragged tons of chalices and I will say I usually try to get atleast one eye but I have taken some pieces that do not have a eye and they do just fine in fact it only takes a short time and they form an eye.

lol People never cease to amaze me. I took five seconds and searched for threads in this section with 'chalice' in the title bar and found 30!

If my golden eye ever gets big enough I would like to frag it. Can you frag a chalice as soon as it has 2 eyes or would it be better to wait until it has multiple eyes? Oh, and what are you using for plugs? Some of them look like tiles.

Yes tiles work great, marble works better as its pretty much pure calcium but you need the white marble not the colored marble as most coloring results from metal deposits.

I would say wait to frag otherwise your just fragging a frag. patience grasshopper..yes those are tiles however they are glass tiles one side has ridges and the other is smooth. they were free I also like them cause they are thin and dont make for an ugly and un natural looking lump under some corals. they are also great to grow out mother colonies of zoos on cause when your ready to frag up some zoos they scrape right off the smooth side. I also take several 1"x" glass tiles and glue the edges together to make one large tile and then I grow encrusting monti's on them and when the monti has overgrown the whole thing I just snap them apart making as many frags as the tiles I glued together. I haven't done this with chalices yet but I dont see why it wouldn't work with them too.
