All--new to the board, somewhat new to the hobby, though I did have a 20g tank when I lived in Cali.
My first tank in cali was a 20 g fish only, and I successfully kept 2 clowns, a blue damsel and a green boxfish, with just power filtration, no live rock, and careful feeding. Key was 5 g water changes every 2 weeks just to bring nitrates down.
Now, 6 yrs later in PR, I started a 25g FOWLR, and it's doing great. This time, a friend gave me a basic FW setup w/ power filter when cleaning his garage. Only 2 small clowns, a yellow watchman goby, some local hermits as CUC, and I think a small hitchhiking pistol shrimp digging holes for the goby. I live in PR close to beach. W/ the live rock, i maintain nitrates at about 5 or less w/ 5 g local seawater change every 3 weeks. (I treat tap water to bring down the salinity slightly). 3 months in and all is well.
According to everything here, and in some books, I should be running a skimmer, and my tank is too small for FO saltwater, and i can't add any more fish. I'm wanting to add a blue tang, but want to check in w/ everyone here first. Any reason not to add 1-2 inches of fish?
