Nice! I'm still wondering if I can add any more wrasses to my new tank. I got bit by the Wrasse bug back last January after my tank crashed from a short-circuited heater.
But I got itchy, an added a T. lunare. He/she is a cool fish, but I worry about aggression ( I won't be adding Flashers, for sure now!)towards any other wrasses.

bradleyj, have you ever done a write-up on your tank someplace? I really love the look, would like to know about your husbandry procedures and coral placement techniques.

Also that Attenuatus Flasher is absolutely stunning, where do you get a fish like that? You say it's not rare?

I just realized I had a female rhomboid for around 5 months before it got chased out fo the tank by another tank mate. I really wish I had a canopy as it was one of my favorite wrasses. I dont have anything too rare now, just a few potters, a red head solons, and I just picked up a hawaiian super male flame wrasse. for 125 bucks from ym fav lfs. The deal was I had to buy another fish, so I snagged a four line too :) I'll try n snag some pictures tomorrow.

Anyone have some suggestions on a lense and camera settings for taking pictures through a glass tank? I can borrow my old mans d300 or 5d with a plethroa of high end lenses, but I need to figure out how to get the camera setup right for this kind of photography.

I have had the honor a couple of times on other sites. But I'm not much of a writer. If I have to sit down and think about it, I get writers block. LOL
Maybe one day if I have the honor from this great website. I'll get some help.

I just love taking pictures and showing my tank to people who know what's going on. What the obsession is all about. :D

The attenuatus is hard to find, but I don't know if it is rare. I was lucky enough to get it off of DD about a year ago.

Will be ordering a 200 DD tank with stand and canopy. I'm really excited because all equipment I have should work perfectly with it.

I also ordered some rock from BRS and requested "cave like" pieces to make some homes for the wrasses. I took some rock out as I'm fighting bubble algae right now, and it took away some hiding places for them. I'll also be carving out some from some current rock as well.

Since I work from home on Friday's now, I requested delivery on that day, so I should be able to show off then :) I might be ordered some fish from my fish guy this week to, so I might be adding like 4-5 fish total this week.

they will be joining my male lineatus, male rhomboid, flame, marjorie, and radient (all my wrasse currently)
sorry i am not much of a picture taker but one day i will have a friend get some decent shots of them all. good luck.
everyone elses wrasse are beautiful. I am still searching for more reliable sources for these beauties. I would really like to add an eight line red sea flasher as my only flasher if i ever find one.

Man, I'm thinking about putting a hold on shipping those Johnsoni.

I redid my frag tank this past weekend, like Friday maybe, and when I put the new water in, I didn't measure the salinity. Apparently it was pretty low. My big monti cap bleached about 1/4 of it, but stopped after I brought the salinity back up a bit.

I came home today to find my big Lineatus and Flame missing. After doing some looking, both are hiding under a large rock in a cave they made. The Lineatus came out to eat, but not the Flame. Plus, my Labouti looks like he has a bit of ich from the stress of the low salinity.

I'll play it out this week and see how it goes. Ugh...just when things are going good, something like this happened that was totally preventable.

you're putting them in your frag tank?

btkrausen
03/07/2011, 09:33 PM
Oh no they are going in display, only place for some fancy wrasses like these, hehe.

My frag tank is connected to the same system, so I emptied the entire thing, cleaned it out, and then when I put new water in, the salinity was too low. When it mixed wit the rest of the system, it dropped the salinity in the entire system.

It looks like my Lineatus is fine, he ate mysis, and then he ate pellets about an hour later. The flame never came out for either one. However, this guy has been on concern to me since I got him. His top fin was messed up a bit, and in the last week, his scales on his side have looked odd, almost like he was bitten. I do see him letting the cleaner wrasse on him quite often, so I wonder if it was him.

A friend of mine just received a pair of Johnsoni pair with super male and a Bellae terminal male this morning from PIA. He had been waiting on the Bell's since we found PIA three months ago. The Johnsoni are out and eating but last I heard the Bell's was still in hiding. Looks like the secret is out about PIA.

I've bought from him many times before , and he will box them and take them straight to the airport for you to pickup the next day. That's the best way to get them I have found.

This is my first order and it should be here within the next hour and a half.

UPS was the best alternative for me as it only would have saved my about an hour. I think it depends on where you are located.

From what i can tell, PIA will take requests for stuff that comes from or goes through Honolulu. Not everything makes it to his site.

Anyway, looks like a great, quality source.

Just got the box, packed very well. There was a little water that leaked out from somewhere, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 cup.

They are currently floating in the sump to begin their acclimation.

We do direct flight Delta Air Cargo from PIA after the bad service we have had with UPS. UPS froze (37deg H2O temp) my Flame wrasse pair and lost my buddy's shipment for the better part of a day. He lives a few miles from the airport and can pick up the fish about 6:30 am. That's only about 14 hours after they were bagged and Dan will ship them Sunday for Monday pickup.

Nope, never treated my fish for anything, as I've never really had much of a problem. If my fish make it past the first 2 weeks, I generally don't have a problem with them.

As for the Flame, he had like a small chunk out of his top fin, and always seemed like part of his scales on the side were missing. I'm very curious if it was my cleaner wrasse and he was a mimic, taking chunks out of the Flame. I saw the cleaner on the Flame quite often.

I took the cleaner out this morning.

mystery_reef
03/08/2011, 12:27 PM
seems like there might be some issue in the tank?
i dont treat anything either but i do use prazipro as a precaution. there are many great threads regarding the use of prazipro and wrasse. i doubt it was the cleaner that killed him. how long did you have the flame before it passed? in another post you said you think you might have ich? it could have been something internal as well that is why i recommended the prazi.

btkrausen
03/08/2011, 02:40 PM
I had the flame for probably a month and a half, and less than a few days in, I noticed something wrong with his top fin. I put in a male Rhomboid and male Lineatus the same day, and they are doing fine.

I'm not sure about the ich. I had it a long time ago, and I haven't seen anything in regards to ich for 8+ months. My only guess is that the stress from the quick salinity drop I had stressed him out, making him susceptible. I added the Laboutei just a week less after the other guys.

Yeah, I completely agree with you, however, I don't think anything is going on with the tank. I've been reefing for 6+ years now, so I'm no rookie. I had a problem when making a stupid mistake this past weekend, but thats been corrected.

The Flame wrasse didn't look spectacular from the start, so I kinda knew that he was going to end up not making it. I really should have put him in another tank to treat him, so lesson learned on that.

As for the Lineatus swimming bladder, that is just bad luck. He was fine for a month, and then started acting funny. He's now swimming upside down today and can't really control himself. Besides that, his physical appearance is still stunning and colorful, and I don't see anything wrong with him. Its just a bad coincidence that this happened together.

I did get these from Sea Dwelling Creatures, in which I've never had luck with their fish. I've got bad fish from them before, and then I thought it was just bad luck, since these three wrasses had been doing good. I still have my Rhomboid from them, and he looks great as of today. Needless to say, I won't get anymore of these wrasses from them again. I'll be getting from either LA or PIA.

PIA is pacific island Aquatics (not advertising for them!)

I currently have 3 QT tanks, a 20g, a 36g, and a 75 g.

All my fish go through 2 rounds of prazi and at least 3 weeks cupramine to make sure no velvet gets transfered to the tank.

You can order prazi from many places on the internet and some different methods to treat. p.s. i treat regardless of signs/ symptoms...

After the fish is eating good and comfortable in their new qT tank (around 1 week) i add 1/2 the dosage for the water volume and monitor the fish (and remove carbon) as long as there are no adverse effects 2 days later I add the other 1/2 again monitoring the fish. after an additional 5 days i do a 30%ish waterchange and add carbon (so 7 days total). I have had good results this way. Then for me, i wait another few days to let the fish recover from prazi and dose 1/2 of the cupramine treatment, and 2 days later the other half again monitoring the fish. nitrate and ammonia can get up there due to lack of carbon so keep an eye out for too much hiding and change in behavior. then after 2 weeks of cupramine i'll do the same treatment of prazi in addition to the cupramine in the water for a second 7 day prazi treatment and at the end i have finished my 3 week cupramine treatment. add carbon and waterchange and then let the fish recover for a few days, then in the acclimation container for a few days then out with the masses!

Again, this is how I do it, but be prepared to make mistakes and always have meds and extra water on hand.

Great shots Brad. They are so cool.

there is very little information about bellae availble because there are so few specimines in aquaria. If you look on the net there is only 1 picture other than the few that have appeared since PIA just brought these in. There are more pictures of bellae's in this thread than i found on the net after hours of searching!

beautiful photos everyone.

gorgeous bell's flasher wrasse!

not much info online. they're found in marshall islands and i believe, have a range extension and is found also in Palau or some other micronesian islands (if i'm not wrong).

it replaces filamentosus in the marshall islands. that means that in the whole of filamentosus's range, marshall islands do not have them and is replaced by bellae. and that's why they're so similar. i think charles darwin could probably lend a lesson or two on allopatric speciation.

First, thanks for making me feel better about my obsession... :) you guys are nutz... ;)

Second, I just added my first Potters to my setup... the first wrasse actually. It's been eating since day one, frozen mysis and the occasional blood worm (yes I do feed those from time to time)... He's been in my setup since Saturday and was only 2 days at the LFS where he was not eating, but I figured I'd try...

He's/She's got some interesting patterned colors, not just the typical, almost like it is going thru a transition in coloring... not sure if that is normal, but for now i'm just happy he/she is eating...

Wow, beautiful pictures of the Belle's. It's great to see some of the pictures on here since there isn't much out there on the web! Hopefully we will see a lot more of these in the future.

Nice video Bradley
Those Rhomboids look pretty big and I love watching that little butterfly swim across the top of the tank.

Not the greatest pics but I have a few. He is very active and fast. Hard to get a picture of him. Other than that he is doing very well eating and always out in front. Pictures just don't do him justice the colors of these fish in person are just crazy.
