Have a couple quick questions.... basic gist.. my plumbing is LOUD.

It gurgles, there's lots of bubbles, and it just sounds loud overall. I have a Marineland Utility Return Pump, turned down to about 200-300gph.

Tank is 15 gallons, 19x13x13in high. Same tank used as sump. There's about 4 ft of head loss due to pipes/elbows/distance.

I have some pictures (excuse the mess in the apartment.. we're moving and my wife said I've been taking too much time on the tank over the past few days :spin2:

..and finally.. a video ;) (It's not this loud anymore)

As for solutions.. well.. I have cut the piping into the sump so it's not creating so much back pressure.

I turned the Return pump down quite a bit, and it did work a bit. However, it still makes noise at the overflow section (gurgles every now and then) and makes much too much noise at the waterline of the sump.

I'm considering the following:

-increasing the air hose diameter to allow more air in.
-adding a T and additional piping to the bottom section to reduce noise/air bubbles that way

Try google "durso standpipe".

It's more than just a durso standpipe.

I've actually searched and read quite a bit on here. My bulkheads are leaking a bit. Huge PITA.. especially at this stage.

Here's a couple of interesting threads on the subject I've been reading today:

thank you for the links. I think the herbie/beananimal methods are nice, but more directed at larger tanks. I don't have enough room to drill 4 holes in my tank.

It's still good reading, none the less.

What happens if you plug off that air tube sticking out the top of your drain line? Any change in the sound?

I'd be tempted to try putting a gate valve in the drain line and plugging off that airline.
