I am replacing my 48" Nova Extreme Pro, with a ATI Sunpower in a 90gal. My question is would I need a 4 or 6 bulb? My plans are a mixed reef with my sps in the upper half of the tank.

depends on how wide your tank is, for mixed reefs a tek fixture may be a good option too

6 over a 90 would be better.

I would run an 8 bulb on a 90g (as this is what I have) gives you more options on coral placement, I don't beleive 4 is adequate, 6 would be min. IMO

On a 90 I would go with the 6 bulb for better coverage. +1 for teklights as a second option

I have a 6 bulb sunpower over my 90 and it's perfect. Every bit as powerful as my 2x250w MH setup I replace. I couldn't think about going with an 8 bulb sunpower on an 18" tank.

4 bulb would really probably do it, but 6 is optimal. At $500 for the 6x54w sunpower, it was the perfect choice for me. Price to performance is above expectation, very happy with mine.

I have a 8x54w over my 60x30x20 and I have problems with too much light.

Hi Archreefer ; I must agree with cr reefer 8 bulbs will show alot more coral growth and many more options for placement..Good Luck and you will not be sorry.... Happy Reefing!:bounce3:

8 bulbs would be silly...you'd burn acros on your sandbed. CR reef this is ATI we're talking about here right? Maybe some other fixture eight bulbs, but an 8 bulb ATI will burn the heck out of your corals they are soooo strong, I'd like to see a pic of an 8 bulb ati on a 90 gal

I run 10 bulbs of TEK(stong, but nowere near ATI strong) on a 36" wide tank, you run 8 bulb ATI on a 18"????

Anyone have any full tank shots with the 6 bulb on a 90?

6 over a 90 would be better.

This guy is the one to listen too. He also knows his bulbs!

I know someone that has your fixture over a 48x24x20 tank then he must have way too much light. I am going with LED simply so I can adjust the intensity.

6 bulbs. i had the nova pro prior too before switching to sunpower 6x54w a year ago. remember to light acclimate the corals, bc the sunpower puts out much more light.

I was thinking of doing the same. I want to replace my MH's with t5's. An 8 bulb unit would be to big for my tank My tank is 60x18x24. My question is should I go with 48" bulbs(they are easier to find) or should I go with 60" bulbs?

6 bulb is the perfect size for a 90. 8 is far too much and too wide, that would be ideal for a 120.

I had a 4 bulb 48" t5 and a 48" PC fixture on a 72 gallon, and when I changed to ATI bulbs my fungia started bleaching on the sand bed. I removed the PC and and now running just the 4 bulb and everything seems to be fine.

I have a 6 bulb sunpower over my 90 and you have to be careful where you put things when you get new corals. I fried a hammer and duncan when acclimating the tank. 6 bulbs give great coverage and plenty of light for lps and sps. If it were sps only I would go 8 but otherwise 6 is plenty. ATI fixtures are more intense than other fixtures.
