Like the title says, I'm playing with the idea of making a really simple rimless glass sump with the approximate dimensions of 15" by 15" by 12" tall.

There would normally just be 3-4" of water inside, but Could go as high as 8" when power is out/return pump shuts off. It would also be plumbed for a 1.5" bulkhead entering through the back panel.

Would 1/4" glass with quality silicone like RTV108 be OK?

I don't have any prior glass tank building experience, but figured this would be a fun way to try.

yup no issues..try to keep the water below 11" though

if there is a baffle anywhere in the "simple sump" then you can run it full if you needed too...

i have a 12x12x12 simple sump with one baffle in it and it is 1/4" glass onside runs 2" from the top the other side about 5" from the top...i used SCS1200 black to make it...

no issues...

my 30 long that i am going to build in the spring will also be made rimless with 1/4" glass that will be 48x12x12...again no issues..

Great to know. Seeing how it's going to cost me ~$30 in glass and $5 in silicone, I'm glad I haven't bought one premade. The closest thing I've seen is the glasscages 10x11x12 for $108 before shipping...

Also if I end up making it I'll be siliconing in a baffle as well, which should help with integrity to boot...

IMO I would go with dow corning 999-A silicone if you can find it. High quality !
